Where is God???
Zechariah 1:3 (NIV) “Return to me declares the Lord Almighty and I will return to you says the Lord Almighty.”
Chapter 1, Verse 1
Where is God??? Remember when God could be called upon at any time, and you could feel His love and guidance? He could be found in church, revealed in a fervent prayer, or even detected in simple acts of kindness that speckled our day. We always felt that He was close at hand even if we couldn't physically visualize Him with our eyes. He was present… controlling the universe, rationing out love and peace, and protecting the meek and innocent – and we knew it.
What has changed? There is little time left for church or prayer in today’s rampant relentless turbulence that lends to more chaos and fizzled, wilted spirits across the globe. Those random deeds of thoughtfulness, that were once fruitful, are now scattered by obscure and twisted winds, where they are left to disintegrate on dry, barren dirt. Even the seeds with the best intentions need fertile soil, water, sunshine, and love……. Yes, love.
Love is indeed what makes the world go around! It pulsates through every living organism as it is the infinite projectory that holds our world together, and binds us as a species and a civilization. Don’t believe you are bound to your fellow man? Well, that can be part of the problem. Love is meant to be transferred to others and shared like a fragrant flower that bears it’s nectar to all. If love is contained or smothered, it will vaporize like the non-nurtured seeds that were unable to take hold in their landing spot. God is love. He created the universe; He created us. Can you see the common thread?
He has been swept under the rug with the day’s dust and crumbs and other oddities that we don’t want to face. His presence, once so real and true, is now transparent and forced. In strained quick prayers, we ask for everything except that which is obviously lacking……..Him. We are missing the point, and slipping off into wanton nothingness sugar coated with a sprinkle of what He once was to us.
I long for my childhood memories of simpler, slower times where God commandeered all aspects of life, like weekly Sunday feasts with all of the family members present – aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins. For a day, people were joined in communion, and were unburdened from the worries that incessantly consume us today.
Maybe God is hiding under a rock because of our abusive, decadent, frivolous, neglectful ways. Maybe He is waiting for the rubble to clear. Maybe, just maybe, we have to search for Him. He is waiting silently, longingly, and purposefully with His fingers crossed……..because He has faith in us!
*Some days it rains……..most days it just seems to pour.*
The wisdom of Our Lord was made known to the prophet Zechariah. We must set aside our daily concerns and fears, and seek Him. Be still, and let the Almighty fill, soothe, and uplift your beautiful soul. Lest we forget, He is always present.
Mini meditation: Close your eyes, and breathe slowly and deeply. Focus on your respirations, and how God’s breath is infusing within your body. Let the day’s woes dissolve into the peaceful stillness. Call upon Jesus to help you, and fill you. Keep asking until you feel His energy all around you. Witness His Heavenly Light descending from the cosmos, and enveloping you. Know you are loved.
May the Joys of Jesus fill your day.
